Digital displays on the Las Vegas Strip now carry a new message for visitors: "When watching a performance or taking a photo, tipping is not required."

Clark County added the message to displays on Las Vegas Boulevard, Commissioner Michael Naft said in a post on X on Saturday, Oct. 17. "Watching a performance or taking a photo with someone does not obligate you to tip," he wrote. "If you feel harassed, look for a nearby police officer or call 911." A county representative told the Las Vegas Review-Journal the signs are going up for public safety.

Costumed characters, showgirl impersonators and other street performers are a familiar sight on the Strip, and many ask for cash after a photo or performance. The new signs follow a viral video of a fight that police say began when two showgirl impersonators demanded more money from a visiting couple after a photo.

You are still free to tip a performer you enjoyed. If you would rather not pay, agree on any price before taking a photo, and walk away if someone becomes aggressive.
