Harry Reid International Airport has finished a $71 million upgrade of its baggage handling system, the Clark County Department of Aviation announced Friday, Oct. 23. The airport says the three-year project covered both terminals and was completed this month, on time and within budget.

In Terminal 1, the work focused on baggage claim. Eight claim belts were upgraded and eight more were replaced, conveyors were replaced, and new columns with LED screens were installed. In Terminal 3, the project modernized the computer hardware and software that control the baggage system.

Airport officials say the upgrades are meant to make baggage handling more efficient, improve passenger flow and ease congestion in key areas of the airport. The project was largely funded by federal infrastructure grants.
