Chapala Mexican Restaurant, the family-run spot at 3331 E. Tropicana Ave. on the east side of Las Vegas, plans to close when its lease runs out at the end of November, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Las Vegas Sun.

Owner Jose Flores runs the restaurant with his siblings, and he told both papers the family is retiring. He told the Sun that the closure is not about financial trouble, even though running the business has gotten more expensive. The siblings are all of retirement age after decades in the kitchen, the dining room and behind the bar.

The restaurant may not disappear for good. The family told the Sun it is negotiating with another group in hopes of keeping the business open and the family's recipes on the menu. Neither paper has reported a finished deal.

Chapala has been on East Tropicana Avenue since 1978, according to the Sun, and regulars know it for its chile verde and its margaritas, which are so popular the house mix is kept on tap. If you want one more meal there, plan to go before the end of November and check with the restaurant first, since no exact final day has been announced.
