A’s Las Vegas ballpark plans to play beyond baseball

At a glance

  • Concerts, private events and other sports are part of the ballpark plans.
  • The new ballpark is on the former Tropicana site on the Strip.
  • The A’s are targeting a 2028 opening.

The A’s are designing their new Strip ballpark to host concerts and events throughout the year. The team has been working with concert promoters and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority on the setup, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported on October 8.

Plans include power supplies for shows and loading space for equipment. Trucks will be able to drive in through the right-field tunnel and out through left field, giving crews a route through the ballpark when setting up or clearing out an event. The team’s official website also lists private gatherings and other sporting events among its plans.

The 33,000-capacity ballpark will have a climate-controlled interior and is being built on the former Tropicana site. The A’s are aiming to open for the 2028 season. It’s a different venue from Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin, where the Aviators play.
